Not too long ago, Ted Kennedy quoted a famous line from a very famous US Supreme Court jurist Oliver Wendell Holmes.

Judges are not justice machines

“The life of the law,” said Holmes, has not been logic, it has been experience. Legal decisions are not like mathematics.”

Kennedy added a thorny aside of his own. He said that, if you relied on logic alone, the US president would appoint computers, rather than judges.
