THE LATEST figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show the average income for women is 65.7% that of men.

Pay comparison needs major adjustment

This hardly seems fair until the CSO points out that, when this is adjusted to reflect actual hours worked, women’s pay is 86% of men’s.

In other words, men work far longer hours than women. Despite this, the CSO figures also show that men have higher rates of unemployment than women.
