Murky business

THE Oireachtas report citing widescale collusion between British state forces and loyalist murderers should not only compel our Government leaders to pursue the British state through the European courts in order to get it to reveal its murky past — they should also demand the withdrawal of the decorations given by Queen Elizabeth to the RUC and the UDR.

Murky business

These organisations were awarded the George Cross and the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross respectively for services to the British state. Now that we know each force was deeply implicated in the murders not only of their Catholic neighbours but also citizens of a separate sovereign state, these awards are not only ill deserved— they are an insult to all victims of their murderous activities.
