Irish or what?

YOUR sports columnist Cormac MacConnell wrote an excellent piece about Glasgow Celtic and Man Utd (Irish Examiner, November 21).

However, I take issue with him when he says “the Manchester side has always been close to the Irish ethos”. Irish players did not give the club an ‘ethos’ — its founding fathers and fans did. As for Celtic’s Irish connections, I attended their last game of the 1998 season when they won the league for the first time in 10 years. I was astonished at the sight of Tricolors flying on top of high-rise flats on the way to Celtic Park.

I bet you don’t see that on the way to Old Trafford.
