Seatbelts for all buses

WHILE the recent moves taken by Bus Éireann on schoolbus safety are to be welcomed, they also highlight their rather cavalier attitude to safety on regular services.

Seatbelts for all buses

As a frequent Bus Éireann passenger, I often find it is a matter of chance if the buses have functioning seatbelts.

There are no seatbelts on city services, which is alarming considering passengers are often thrown forward violently when the bus stops.

The review of schoolbus safety is not only long overdue, but should apply to all vehicles in Bus Éireann’s fleet. Otherwise, it is only a matter of time before another fatal crash takes place.

We should not have to go to this extreme to be reminded of the importance of passenger safety.
