Shadow of corruption lingers over Government

IT WAS almost inevitable it would come out — the real Bertie bowl was in the early 1990s and it wasn’t in the public interest but a private gain.

Shadow of corruption lingers over Government

The environment of corruption that Charles Haughey embedded into the party has not escaped Taoiseach Bertie Ahern. Moreover, the response of Tánaiste Michael McDowell was to tell us this was an insignificant episode.

The role of the public servant should never be to fill their own pockets; their only remit should be to serve the public good.

It would be correct and proper that the FF/PD administration should not be returned at the next election. It would show that we finally wish to move away from this era of political corruption.
