Nursing Homes - Government has let the elderly down

It is more than a year since an RTÉ Prime Time Special highlighted appalling scenes of neglect and abuse at the Leas Cross Nursing Home in Swords, County Dublin.

The programme provoked outrage, but little progress seems to have been made since then.

Professor Desmond O’Neill of the Department of Gerontology at Trinity College, Dublin, who also works at the both the Adelaide and Meath hospitals, spent four months investigating conditions at the Leas Cross Nursing Home.
