Government reneges on nursing home repayments

ANOTHER month has passed and another Government commitment has been broken.

The promised July repayment of money illegally taken from residents of long-stay community/nursing homes has been reneged upon.

It is now exactly three and a half years since I highlighted this illegality and called for immediate restitution. Since then, many hundreds with entitlement to repayment have died. For them, the great injustice can never be undone.

The Government has pathetically failed its solemn duty to the aged and vulnerable. It stands indicted of cruel disregard for those who toiled so Ireland might prosper.
