Rendition flights - Flights could make Ireland terror target
Like it or not, that amounts to a contravention of the European Convention on Human Rights.
According to Swiss Senator Dick Marty, Ireland was used for stopover flights, along with Britain, Portugal and Italy, in what he describes as a “global spider’s web”.
His conclusions are based on records released by the agency that controls movement of aircraft across Europe.
In effect, the State has been found guilty by the Council of Europe of colluding in the denial of civil rights of suspects being transferred for interrogation and torture. Ominously, that makes Ireland a possible target of terrorism.
