Beach ban on dogs

I WAS a little confused by your report on the banning of dogs from Clare beaches during the afternoon for the summer months (Irish Examiner, May 30).

Beach ban on dogs

Without any indication as to why our canine companions would not be welcome in these public places, I can only presume that the council has received complaints about owners who do not tidy up after their dogs and allow them to run out of control.

But hang on, there are already laws in place prohibiting such behaviour. Why not just enforce them and not discriminate against responsible dog-owners?

I’m more bothered by out-of-control children allowed to run the shores, so I have a proposition for Clare council: ban all children until parents who can’t control them learn to do so.
