How speculators deny homes to young couples

THE president of the St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP), Prof John Monaghan, says 60,000 social housing units are needed (Irish Examiner, May 29).

Many people are sleeping rough, and were it not for the good work of the SVP and the Simon Community, many more would be left on our streets.

Exorbitant rents for private accommodation and planning regulations are putting many more families on the poverty line.
