On the crest of a wave: Royal Cork Yacht Club honoured

It may be difficult as the tail-end of a minor January storm passes over the country to remember how very lovely this country can be for most of the year and how lucky we are to have so many wonderful facilities that allow us to enjoy the great Irish outdoors.

On the crest of a wave: Royal Cork Yacht Club honoured

One of those facilities won international recognition yesterday when the oldest yacht club in the world was deemed to have the best marina in the world.

Royal Cork Yacht Club (RCYC) in Crosshaven, Co Cork, was so honoured by The Yacht Harbour Association (TYHA) at the London Boat Show.

The club, founded in 1720, topped a list of 160 contenders from all around the world.

Every international accolade like this benefits this country and this peer-recognition cannot be achieved without considerable effort and commitment.

Those responsible for winning this enviable gong can take a bow, as their efforts will resonate far beyond their immediate environment and hopefully lift far more boats than just those moored at Crosshaven.
