THOUGH our parliament is mired in its own security scandal, and despite its chilling implications, we are still some distance from the bizarre events that forced President Donald Trump to accept the resignation of his national security advisor Mike Flynn.

This is the second avoidable calamity to befall Mr Trump’s administration during its first month in power.

Unfortunately, the impression already created by his White House tenancy suggests a dangerous pattern, one driven by incomprehension around how government works but utterly untroubled by uncertainty.
