The Government should listen to water protesters

The incident where Joan Burton was imprisoned in her car by angry but peaceful water charge protesters was inevitable. The people have been patient and helpful to this Government and in return have received nothing but high-handed contempt.

It was telling that Joan Burton should have tweeted from her car that the action of the protesters, “veered into outright intimidation and confrontation.” That is what we have being getting from her, her party and the Government.

When she was given the loud message that water charges will not be paid, she chose to misinterpret this to her own liking and the Taoiseach’s subsequent hint that Revenue may collect the water charge was both intimidation and confrontational.
