A new book by Guardian Ireland correspondent Rory Carroll examines the hunt by British intelligence to capture Roger Casement and his role in assisting to foment — and ultimately attempting to call off — the 1916 Rising. 

The book offers a unique take on the life of not just Casement but also other figures central to the Rising, as well as the British intelligence chief engaged in fighting a war against Germany while suppressing rebellion in Ireland.
