Domino’s Pizza

85% of Domino’s Pizza of stores are owned by franchisees, and Cathal McDonnell is no exception.

Having worked for the company between 1997 and 2000 and returned from two years abroad to manage a number of outlets in Dublin, he now owns eight outlets in the Munster region.

“Business has been difficult for us, like everyone else, over the last four years,” he says.

“While Domino’s is a proven product, the last few years have required us to be better at what we do, for less. It is a rewarding business, but definitely one where longer hours and a seven-day week is now the norm in these challenging times.”

While further expansion is an option, Cathal sees the current business environment as one of consolidation.

“But certainly, given the right circumstances and location, we would look to more outlets down the road.”

In challenging times, franchising does offer extra supports that are not available to stand alone traders, he believes.

“Franchising has a network and structure, a proven process and developed expertise and constant access to other franchisees to help solve problems you may be encountering. Franchising offers experience and certainty that is hard to find elsewhere,” he said.
