Greens’ Lisbon war chest ‘meagre’
Mr Gormley said he was concerned about a poll showing a fall in the number of people supporting the treaty.
The yes side would have to run a focused, energetic campaign, he stressed.
“If that is not done, yes, we do run the risk of losing this — I have no doubt about it,” Mr Gormley said.
He denied, however, that Taoiseach Brian Cowen’s unpopularity would damage the yes campaign — although he failed to refer to Mr Cowen by name.
On the Greens’ campaign spend, he said: “Our budget is, I’ll be frank with you, meagre because our resources are very low. We do hope that we can work with our colleagues in the European Greens and get finances from them so we can buy more posters.”
Stressing his belief that the most powerful form of communication was “face to face”, Mr Gormley added: “And most of all, we will be doing leaflet campaigns and going door to door.”
