Rare shout of 'Mayo for Sam' in European Parliament as Taoiseach reminded of Cork defeat

A Dutch MEP is backing Mayo after his country was paired with the western county during Ireland's EU Presidency

Dutch MEP Jeroen Lenaers is backing Mayo in the All-Ireland football championship as the European Parliament in Strasbourg heard a shout of "Mayo for Sam" on Tuesday.

The 26 EU states have been paired with Irish counties during Ireland's EU Presidency, and Mr Lenaers' home country has been paired with Mayo. He was also happy to remind Micheál Martin about Mayo beating the Taoiseach's native Cork in the All-Ireland quarter-final.

Mayo, who will feature in their first All-Ireland semi-final in five years, are set to play Louth on Saturday.
