Independent presidential hopeful Maria Steen’s hopes of getting onto the ballot paper are hanging by a thread as the 12pm deadline for submitting nominations nears.

She may only have to wait until 9am to learn her fate, as one politician is expected to declare their intentions in the coming hours.
