People Before Profit (PBP) TD Bríd Smith is to contest the upcoming European elections.
The Dublin South-Central TD, who announced last July that she would be standing down from the Dáil at the next election, will instead be PBP’s candidate for the Dublin constituency.
Ms Smith previously ran for Europe for the party in 2014, but did not take a seat.
Alongside Ms Smith, the party is set to run Cian Prendiville in the South Constituency and Dr Brian O’Boyle in the Midlands North-West constituency.
Earlier this year, it was announced that PBP councillor for Ballyfermot/Drimnagh Hazel De Nortúin has been selected to stand for the party in the Dublin South-Central constituency.
Ms Smith said that Ms De Nortúin would be a “wonderful candidate” for PBP and described her as a “young socialist fighter”.
At the time, Ms Smith confirmed that she did not plan to cease being politically active and would continue to be an active campaigner for PBP.
It comes as Fianna Fáil confirmed last night that sitting MEP Barry Andrews would be the party’s candidate for the Dublin constituency when the election takes place in June.
