Politicians who feel the need to beef up their security will be able to claim up to €5,000 towards the cost of CCTV and alarms.

The Department of Public Expenditure has informed the Houses of the Oireachtas Commission that it has sanctioned the spending which it requested following consultations with TDs and senators. Politicians can recoup 50% or €5,000, whichever is lower, of the cost of the security measures required.
