Waterford e-scooter deaths: Jury shown photographs from fatal crash scene
Gilbert Collins and Avuzwa Idris: Pair died in Waterford in June 2024.
Scratch marks on the tarmac led to the scene where two teenagers were killed when an e-scooter collided with a bus in Waterford.
Photographs were shown to the jury in the trial of bus driver Adrian Doyle, of Ard Glas, Abbey Road, Ferrybank, Co Waterford.
They revealed some of the aftermath of the crash, including a shoe left at the scene and gouge marks on the road.
Mr Doyle has pleaded not guilty to dangerous driving causing the deaths of Gilbert Collins, 15, of Ardmore Park, Ballybeg, Waterford, and Avuzwa Sampo, 17, of Crystal Mews, Court Road, Waterford.
The two boys died when the e-scooter they were travelling on was involved in a collision on the Cork Road in Waterford city at about 2am on June 27, 2024.
The e-scooter had no rear light and the teenagers were wearing dark clothing, Waterford Circuit Court has heard.
A relative of the dead boys wiped away tears as details from the crash scene photos were described to the court on Wednesday.
A damaged e-scooter lying on the cold, grey ground featured in multiple photos.
The shattered windscreen of the bus was captured in others, while damage underneath the bus following the fatal crash was also described.
A measuring stick could be seen propped against the front of the bus indicating the scale of the damage.
The bus was travelling along a straight section of the R680, where the speed limit was 50km/h, when the collision occurred, the court previously heard.
The court has heard that Mr Doyle was driving at 77km/h, more than 25km/h above the speed limit.
The e-scooter was travelling in the same direction as the bus and was carrying both teenagers.
The trial before Judge Eugene O'Kelly and a jury of nine men and three women continues.
