A major age-friendly expo will take place in Millstreet, Co Cork, next month, bringing together organisations and community groups offering information, advice and support to older people.
The Millstreet Age Friendly Team, supported by Cork County Council’s Age Friendly Programme, will host the free event, which will include workshops, at the Wallis Arms Hotel, Millstreet, on Thursday, November 26, from 11am to 2pm.
Millstreet, a designated age-friendly town, is organising the event to promote positive ageing, inclusion and community participation.
Visitors will have an opportunity to engage directly with service providers and learn about the supports available locally.
Participating organisations include Millstreet Day Centre, Millstreet Library, HSE Public Health Nursing Services, the Age Friendly Programme, the Healthy Age Friendly Homes Initiative, Millstreet Fire Service, Millstreet Men's Shed, Millstreet Active Retirement Association, the Alzheimer Society of Ireland, Cork Education and Training Board (ETB), An Garda Síochána and regional development organisation IRD Duhallow.
Macroom Municipal District officer Marie O’Leary said everyone was welcome to attend and refreshments would be provided.
“This event provides an excellent opportunity for older persons, family members, carers and members of the wider community to connect with local organisations, access useful information and discover the many supports available to help people remain active, informed and independent within their community,” Ms O’Leary said.
