Man arrested in garda investigation into alleged bribery of public official
On Monday, detectives attached to the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB) arrested the man on suspicion of bribing a public official.
A man has been arrested on suspicion of bribing a public official.
The garda investigation relates to alleged corruption in office involving a former local authority employee and external contractors in the south of the country.
The suspect is a man in his 40s.
The investigation is not believed to involve Cork city or Limerick.
However, it is being carried out within the Garda Southern Region, which includes Cork city, Cork county, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, and Clare.
On Monday, detectives attached to the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB) arrested the man on suspicion of bribing a public official.
"The male is currently detained for questioning in a garda station in the Southern Region under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, as amended," a statement from Garda Headquarters said.
"The investigation is being led by specialist detectives from the Anti-Bribery and Corruption Unit at the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau, assisted by divisional resources in the Southern Region."
The investigation is ongoing.
