Woman (70s) seriously injured after being struck by bus in Cork city centre

A woman in her seventies was seriously injured after being struck by a bus on Patrick St in Cork on Wednesday afternoon.

Gardaí and emergency services were alerted shortly after 2.30pm and the woman was taken to Cork University Hospital, where she was treated for what have been described as serious injuries.

The incident, which occurred on Cork’s main thoroughfare by Lavitt’s Quay, caused considerable disruption in the city, with the road closed for a period.

Gardaí in Anglesea St are asking for anyone with information to call 021 4522000 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.

In a statement, the garda press office said on Wednesday evening: “Shortly after 2.30pm, on Wednesday April 1, gardaí and emergency services were alerted after a female pedestrian (70s) was struck by a bus on Patrick St, Cork.

“The injured woman was taken to CUH for treatment of serious injuries. The scene was examined and has since reopened to traffic,” a spokesperson said.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Anglesea Street Station 021 4522000 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111. Investigations are ongoing.”
