'Dream come true': Cork artist Will Sliney to illustrate Masters of the Universe comic series

Comic series The Wings of Fate illustrated by the Ballycotton artist will launch this summer

It's a dream come true for Cork's Will Sliney — the Spider-Man and Star Wars artist will illustrate a brand-new He-Man and Masters of the Universe comic series launching this summer alongside a hotly anticipated live-action film.

The four-part The Wings of Fate series, set in the film universe of Masters of the Universe, will launch on June 10. The series is penned by the acclaimed screenwriter and comic writer Tim Sheridan, and illustrated by the Ballycotton artist.

The launch will come five days after the US release of live-action adventure movie Masters of the Universe from Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Studios.

Dark Horse Comics and Mattel explained the plot: “In the aftermath of Skeletor’s siege on Eternos, a down-and-out refugee gives sanctuary to a mysterious, injured falcon. Now, to save her life, he must embark upon a perilous journey through the Mystic Mountains and seek aid from the storied inhabitants of the realm of Avion.” 

For Sliney, being approached to illustrate the comic series has been a dream come true.

“It is one of the few things left on the bucket list. The team got on to me a while back with the movie coming out and I couldn’t turn it down. 

"I am doing the Marvel stuff as well at the same time so it has been a busy little while working on a couple of different projects but it has been really exciting.” 

Having been a massive fan of Masters of the Universe as a child, Will says his dad tried to find a Castle Grayskull set for one childhood birthday but couldn’t, and ended up building one himself for Sliney.

Last year marked Sliney's animation directorial debut with his short film Droid Academy.
