Steel truck overturns near Cork’s Elysian building, causing major traffic delays

Emergency services responded after a steel-laden truck overturned near Cork’s Elysian building, blocking one lane and causing heavy congestion

A lorry carrying a load of steel overturned near the Elysian building in Cork City on Thursday morning, causing significant traffic disruption.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident at around 9.20am after the truck took the bend from Eglinton Street onto Albert Street and tipped onto its side on the footpath outside the Aldi supermarket.

Members of An Garda Síochána and Cork City Fire Brigade arrived at the scene shortly afterwards.

Cork City Fire Brigade Second Officer Victor Shine told the Irish Examiner that the incident did not result in any serious injuries.

“The driver is being checked out as a precautionary measure, but there doesn't appear to be any serious injuries involved," he said.

Mr Shine said emergency services waited on a crane to right the truck and remove it from the scene.

Traffic on Albert Street was reduced to one lane at the time, causing heavy tailbacks throughout the surrounding area.

A garda spokesperson told the Irish Examiner that traffic management was in place.

"No injuries have been reported," the spokesperson said.

"No further information is available at this time."
