Woman, 80s, and man, 40s, dead following separate crashes in Tipperary

Two people have been killed following separate single-car crashes in Co Tipperary in the early hours of Sunday morning. 

A woman aged in her 80s died in Toomevara, Nenagh, while a man, aged in his 40s, was killed in Birdhill. 

The Nenagh crash occurred at some time between midnight and 2.20am on Sunday morning. The woman, who was the sole occupant of the car, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Gardaí said the coroner was notified and the woman's body was removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick (UHL). An autopsy will take place in due course. 

The road remains closed at the scene, which is preserved pending a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, and traffic diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them. Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 12am and 2.30am are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.

Gradaí said the Birdhill crash occurred "in the early hours" of Sunday morning. 

The man was the sole occupant of the car and was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner was notified, and the man's body was taken to UHL, with an autopsy due to take place.

The road remains closed pending a technical examination, and gradaí have traffic diversions are in place.

Gardaí are also appealing for witnesses to this crash. Any road users who may have camera footage and were travelling on the R445 at Birdhill, Tipperary, between 10pm on Saturday and 8am this morning are asked to make this footage available to investigators.
