Three people have been injured in a serious road traffic crash in Co Kerry.

Gardaí and emergency services personnel attended the scene of the collision involving a car and a van, which happened on the N22 Killarney to Tralee road at Coolcorcoran shortly after 9.30am on Thursday.

A passenger in one of the vehicles, a female in her 60s, was conveyed by air ambulance to Cork University Hospital (CUH) for treatment. Gardaí described her injuries as "serious".

The drivers of both vehicles, a man in his 80s and a woman in her 60s, were taken to University Hospital Kerry for treatment. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening at this time.

The road where the incident occurred remains closed pending a technical examination.

A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Examiner that while local traffic diversions have been put in place, these diversions are not suitable for heavy vehicles and drivers should instead use alternative national routes.

Investigating gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses to the crash.

Any road users with camera footage who were travelling in the area between 9am and 9.45am have been asked to make this footage available.

Anyone with information should contact Killarney Garda Station on 064 667 1160, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
