Cyclist, 60s, killed in road accident in Cork

Gardaí are investigating the death of a cyclist in a road traffic collision in Co Cork. 

The incident happened on the N25 at Carrigtwohill at around 5pm on Wednesday evening.

Emergency services were called to the incident and the male cyclist, aged in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

His body was removed to the mortuary at University Cork Hospital where a post-mortem examination will take place.

The male driver of the van, also aged in his 60s, received treatment at the scene. 

Gardaí closed the road for technical examinations by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

The section of the N25 where the incident occurred is to remain closed overnight and an examination of the scene will take place on Thursday morning.

Road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and were travelling in the area between 4.30pm and 5pm on Wednesday have been urged to provide the footage to gardaí.
