UCC historian Gabriel Doherty was a 'wonderful scholar' and devoted family man, funeral told

Mr Doherty died suddenly at home in Douglas, Cork, last Friday, just weeks short of his 57th birthday

Renowned historian Gabriel Doherty has been remembered as a brilliant and accomplished academic who wore his scholarship lightly, inspiring others through his sheer enthusiasm.

“He truly did live the motto of UCC — where Finbarr taught — Let Munster Learn. He took it everywhere, his learning, his scholarship,” Canon Teddy O’Sullivan told mourners at his funeral Mass in Cork on Friday.
