Renowned historian Gabriel Doherty has been remembered as a brilliant and accomplished academic who wore his scholarship lightly, inspiring others through his sheer enthusiasm.

“He truly did live the motto of UCC — where Finbarr taught — Let Munster Learn. He took it everywhere, his learning, his scholarship,” Canon Teddy O’Sullivan told mourners at his funeral Mass in Cork on Friday.
