Body discovered on grounds of University Hospital Limerick
Gardaí at the scene on UHL where a body was found on Thursday night.
Gardaí suspect the body of man found on the grounds of University Hospital Limerick (UHL) is that of a missing person from the mid-west region.
A Garda source said that while the body had yet to be formally identified, Gardaí were working on the understanding that the male’s remains were that of a man, who had been reported missing several weeks ago.
The body was discovered late Thursday night near to a helipad and a staff car park on the grounds of the hospital, located at St Nessan’s Road, Limerick.
A Garda spokesman said that Gardaí were “investigating all the circumstances” surrounding the discovery of the man’s body.
“The body has since been removed from the scene and a post-mortem examination will take place at a later date, the results of which will determine the course of the investigation,” they added.
Gardai said their “investigations are ongoing” and that the office of the Limerick Coroner had been contacted.
A large area where the body was discovered, including a car park and adjoining green areas, remained sealed off Friday with Gardai maintaining a presence at the scene.
It is understood a member of the UHL staff discovered the man’s remains and alerted the emergency services.
UHL was asked for comment.
