Investigation after body recovered from water in Co Cork

An investigation has been launched after the body of a man was recovered from the water in Cork on Friday morning.
The Irish Coast Guard at Valentia was alerted by a member of the public after the body was sighted shortly before 10am.
Gardaí and the Crosshaven Coast Guard unit attended the scene in Crosshaven and carried out a recovery.
A Coast Guard spokesperson said: "This morning at approximately 9.44am, the Irish Coast Guard at MRSC Valentia was alerted by a member of the public that a body was sighted in the water near Crosshaven, Co. Cork.
"Crosshaven Coast Guard Unit was tasked to the scene to assist in recovering the body from the water. The casualty was subsequently transferred to An Garda Siochána."
The body has since been taken to Cork University Hospital where an autopsy is set to take place.
"Enquiries are ongoing," a garda spokesperson said.
