Gardaí were alerted to the disturbance at a residence in Charleville at around 11.30pm on Monday, with a young girl taken to hospital in the aftermath.

A 12-year-old child is in a serious condition in hospital with a suspected fractured skull after her home was attacked by a gang of up to five masked men in north Cork.

The garda superintendent overseeing the investigation into the shocking incident which has rocked the town of Charleville appealed to the public for help tracking down her attackers.
