Several parts of Cork City are at risk of localised flooding over the coming days as a result of high astronomical Spring Tides.
The high tides, which begin on Tuesday evening and will last until the weekend, are a result of the storm front crossing over the Atlantic.
Met Éireann says the “significant storm surge” may result in localised tidal flooding, particularly along low-lying quays in the city.
Cork City Council said the affected areas will likely include Morrison’s Quay, Fr. Mathew Quay, Fr. Mathew Street, Union Quay and Trinity Bridge.
Other areas may include South Terrace, Rutland Street, Sawmill Street, Crosses Green, Sharman Crawford St, Wandesford Quay and South Mall, particularly the southern side.
No property damage or road closures are predicted at this point, Cork City Council says.
The high tides are predicted for Tuesday evening shortly after 7pm, while Wednesday’s High Tides are expected to occur at 7.23am and 7.45pm.
Thursday’s high tides are expected to occur at 8.05am and shortly before 8.30pm, while on Friday the high tide is expected at 8.48am and again shortly after 9.10pm.
“The situation will continue to be monitored and further advice will be issued, if the situation changes,” the statement read.
Cork City Council will be posting regular updates on the flooding to their Twitter, @corkcitycouncil, account as well as the City Council’s Public Alert System.
