A man in his 80s has been hospitalised following a collision between a car and a tractor in Co Cork.

Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses to the collision, which happened on the N71 at Durrus Cross in Gortnacloona near Bantry at approximately 8.05pm on Saturday.

The driver of the car, a man in his 80s, was subsequently taken to Cork University Hospital with serious injuries. No other serious injuries were reported.

The N71 at Durrus Cross, and the R591 approaching this junction, are currently closed to traffic pending a technical examination of the scene later this morning. Local diversions have been put in place.

Any road users with camera footage who were travelling in the Durrus Cross area between 7.45pm and 8.15pm on Saturday have been asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
