A man in his 20s has died and two have been taken to hospital following a single-vehicle collision overnight.

The incident occured at around 2.30am in Rathanker near Passage West in Co Cork.

The driver of the car was fatally injured and two other occupants have been taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment. Their injuries are understood to be non-life-threatening.

The local road in Rathanker remains closed this afternoon and traffic diversions are in place.

Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are carrying out a technical examination of the scene.

GardaĂ­ are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.

Any road users who were travelling on the L2474 road between Rochestown and Monkstown between 2am and 2.45am this morning and who have footage are asked to make this available to GardaĂ­.
