Flood warnings have been issued for Cork for Friday as "very high astronomical spring tides" are expected.

A High Tide advisory has been issued by Met Éireann which will come into place on Friday morning and stay in place until Monday evening with high coastal levels expected on Saturday.

The period of supermoon spring tides is expected to be "one of the highest during 2024" and will be the primary driver for elevated and high coastal levels over the weekend, a spokesperson for Cork County Council said.

High tide is expected at 5pm on Friday.

The pumping arrangments protocol has been activated and has been deployed at designated locations affected by the forecasted conditions.

Property owners and residents at known coastal risk locations are being advised to take the usual necessary precautions
