One person has been airlifted to hospital following a serious road traffic collision in West Cork on Wednesday.

The incident happened on the R599 near Lisbealad between Dunmanway and Clonakilty at approximately 8.30am.

An air ambulance was called to the scene and one casualty was subsequently transferred to Cork University Hospital (CUH) for treatment.

The severity of their injuries is not yet known.

Emergency services personnel and gardaĂ­ remain at the scene.

The road where the accident occurred was partially closed for a time, but has since reopened to traffic.
