David Stanners was regarded as one of the ringleaders of the McCarthy/Dundon gang and an extremely dangerous individual.

One of Ireland's top gangsters and a key figure in the Limerick feuds was found dead in his cell at Mountjoy Prison on Wednesday morning.

Notorious killer David Stanners from Moyross in Limerick was unresponsive when warders opened his cell door. The 51-year-old had served over 20 years of a life sentence for the brutal murder of rival gang boss Kieran Keane as part of violent and vicious Limerick feud.
