A young man fled from a drugs search throwing a packet of white powder into the River Lee but when he was caught and arrested he had another packet in his pocket containing €3,900 worth of ketamine.

23-year-old Luke Aherne of 3 Upper Glenview Terrace, Macroom, County Cork, had been given an opportunity to avoid prison by having a 10-month sentence suspended on condition that he would co-operate with the probation report.
