Judge orders medical and psychological assessments after accused appears before Carrick-on-Suir District Court

A 33-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Noreen Daly, who was found dead at her Co Waterford home.

Finn Yowell was remanded in custody after being charged with the murder of the 81-year-old pensioner, who was originally from Cork.

Ms Daly's body was discovered at her home in Ardsallagh, Co Waterford on Monday afternoon.

Mr Yowell, of Old School House, Ticknock, Co Waterford, was charged with murdering Ms Daly on Sunday.

Detective Garda Stephen Condon of Dungarvan Garda Station gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution at Carrick-on-Suir District Court on Wednesday.

The accused made no reply when the charge was put to him by gardaí, the court heard.

No application for bail was made, as the District Court does not have jurisdiction to grant bail in a murder case.

Solicitor Ken Cunningham requested that his client be assessed both medically and psychologically.

Judge John O'Leary granted the request and ordered that medical assessments be carried out in prison and that all appropriate treatment be provided to the accused.

He remanded Mr Yowell in custody to appear before Clonmel District Court next Tuesday.

Mr Yowell did not speak during the five-minute hearing.
