The charges follow an incident in which gardaí were responding to reports of a firearm discharge in Ballymun at approximately 3pm.

A man in his 20s has been charged in connection with a firearm incident in Ballymun and is due to appear before Dublin District Court this afternoon.

The charges follow an incident in which gardaí were responding to reports of a firearm discharge in Ballymun at approximately 3pm on Tuesday, April 28.

It is understood that at least one suspect was being pursued by gardaí when a firearm was discarded. A child then reportedly picked up the weapon and discharged it before another individual took the gun and fled the scene.

Two males — a man in his 20s and a teenage juvenile — were arrested in the aftermath of the incident. The younger male was subsequently released.

Gardaí previously confirmed there were no reports of injuries.

The arrested man has been released from the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939, and charged in connection with the case. He is due to appear at Tuesday afternoon’s sitting of Dublin District Court.

He is scheduled to appear at the Criminal Courts of Justice, Court No. 4.

Gardaí have renewed their appeal for witnesses as investigations continue.
