A garda member was hospitalised after he was struck by a speeding motorcyclist during a patrol in Dublin on Thursday evening.
At around 9pm in a green area in Blakestown, Blanchardstown, gardaí, who were on a patrol to disrupt the sale and supply of controlled drugs, saw the man driving a Surron-type electric motorbike.
His face was covered, according to gardaí, and he was driving on the green area and on footpaths, putting members of the public at risk.
The garda member, a man in his 20s, was on foot when he approached the motorcyclist. As he approached the bike, it drove off, striking the garda in the process.
The garda was brought to Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown, to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
"Welfare supports have been made available to the garda by local management," a garda spokesperson said.
The motorcyclist, in his 30s, was also taken to hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
He has since been arrested and is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in Dublin.
The motorcycle has also been seized. "Investigations are ongoing," the spokesperson added.
