Two men charged in Cork with more than 80 counts related to the rape and sexual assault of two children are to face trial in the Central Criminal Court.
The book of evidence was served on both men on Friday, Fermoy District Court heard.
Sergeant Majella O’Sullivan said that the State was sending them forward for trial on indictment to the next sitting of the Central Criminal Court.
This will be in the Criminal Courts of Justice in Dublin rather than in Cork, Sgt O’Sullivan said.
There are 73 counts against one of the men, who is aged 68. There are nine counts against the other man, aged 67.
The man who faces 73 counts allegedly committed offences between 1997 and 2000.
The offences include rape under Section 4 Criminal Law (Rape) Act 1990, sexual assaults, and attempted rape.
The other man faces nine charges — sexual assaults, three rapes under Section 4 Criminal Law (Rape) Act 1990, and attempted rape.
These offences were allegedly committed between 1993 and 1997.
Solicitor Matt Birmingham, acting for solicitor Daithà Ó Donnabháin, who is representing the man facing 73 charges, applied for legal aid.
Judge Miriam Walsh granted legal aid to Mr Ă“ Donnabhain and for two barristers.
No legal aid application had been made on behalf of the other man, his solicitor, Stephen Cotter said.
Bail was extended to both men on the same terms that it was previously granted, including that they have no contact — either direct or indirect — with the alleged victims, that their passports are surrendered, and they sign on weekly at a specified garda station.
Reporting restrictions were applied to the cases, and the men cannot be named for legal reasons.
