A third man has been arrested by gardaí as part of a cross-border terrorism investigation.

The man, aged in his 30s, was arrested in Laois and is currently being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939 at a garda station in the midlands.

A spokesman said the investigation continues to be led by the Special Detective Unit.

Last week, two men appeared before Portlaoise District Court charged with possession of explosives after their arrest, also in Laois, by gardaí during a cross-Border anti-terrorism operation.
