He was taken to Tullamore Garda Station and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

A man aged in his 30s has been charged in connection with a robbery in Co Offaly.

Shortly after 4pm on Wednesday, gardaĂ­ responded to reports of a robbery at a pharmacy in Tullamore.

A masked man, armed with what appeared to be a firearm, entered the premises and threatened staff.

He fled the scene with a sum of cash and medical products.

A short time later, a man in his 30s was arrested by a member of An Garda Síochána who was on patrol in the area.

He was taken to Tullamore Garda Station and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

All of the stolen property and the replica firearm were recovered.

The man has since been charged as part of the investigation and is due to appear before Portlaoise District Court later today.
