A 25-year-old man who confessed earlier this month to charges of assault causing harm to the same young woman twice in one day at different locations around Cork, on Monday indicated that he will plead guilty to a third count of assaulting her.

Aaron Sheehan formerly of Lower Glanmire Road, Cork, and later of Glengarriff, County Cork indicated on Monday that he would be signing a plea of guilty to a third charge of assault causing harm to the same woman.

This third offence will be listed for October 1 at Cork District Court where the accused can sign the plea of guilty as indicated. Once this is done it is anticipated that this charge will be sent forward for sentencing at Cork Circuit Criminal Court.

The charge alleges that she was walking at Reeve’s Wood, Douglas Road, Cork, when she was the victim of an assault causing harm.

Two other charges of assault causing harm had been listed for sentencing on Monday at Cork District Court, in respect of the same injured party.

Solicitor Diarmuid Kelleher said  in light of a third such charge now being sent forward for circuit court sentencing it would be preferable for sentencing of the other two assaults to be put back for sentencing in the district court after the circuit court.

Sergeant John Dineen previously stated that on July 22, 2024, a woman reported that Aaron Sheehan assaulted her at Cork Simon Community. CCTV showed him striking her multiple times. She had cuts to her face and was attended to at Mercy University Hospital.

When speaking to gardaí she alleged that Aaron Sheehan had also assaulted her on the same day at an unknown location near Marina market.

Mr Kelleher said the accused had a very tough life from the beginning and that at the age of 17 he was in a very bad accident that resulted in him being on life support and losing his left eye.

He became addicted to medication and later to heroin. He is now clear of drugs and is on a methadone treatment programme.
