Truck driver charged over €2.1m drug seizure in Cork remanded in custody

The man is charged with cannabis possession and having the cannabis for sale or supply at the Port of Cork, Ringaskiddy.

The investigation of a €2.1m drug seizure at Ringaskiddy at the end of July saw a of 59-year-old truck driver being remanded in custody today for a fortnight.

Robert Slivar, of no fixed abode, but formerly of Ivanic in Croatia, appeared at Cork District Court charged with two offences relating to the seizure of 93 packages of herbal cannabis with a weight of 107kg.

Mr Slivar, who travelled to Cork by ferry from Zeebrugge in Belgium on July 27, is charged with cannabis possession and having the cannabis for sale or supply at the Port of Cork, Ringaskiddy, on that date.

On the application of Sergeant Gearóid Davis, Judge Mary Dorgan remanded the accused in custody until September 17. Mr Slivar was represented in court by barrister Jessica Kelleher.

Dt Garda Ryan Dillon previously objected to bail in the case citing the strength of evidence and the seriousness of the charge facing the accused. He said that Mr Slivar made no reply after each charge was put to him under caution.

Evidence of arrest, charge and caution and was given by Det Garda Ryan Dillon in relation to the charges and the accused gave no reply after each charge.
