Man arrested after €1.6m cannabis haul found in van during Wexford drug sting

A man in his 40s has been arrested following the seizure of €1.6m worth of cannabis from a van in County Wexford.
During a joint operation by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) and Revenue officers, gardaí intercepted the van in Ballycarney on Friday.
During a search of the vehicle, approximately 80kg of herbal cannabis, with an estimated street value of €1.6m, was discovered and seized.
A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene. He is currently being detained at a Garda station in the east of the country under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996. He may be held for up to seven days.
The seized drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.
A Garda spokesperson said that investigations are ongoing.
